From Blue Print to Bake Sale

I love a good spring cleaning and, while tackling the over-stuffed closet is nice, nothing is more rewarding than cleaning out the body. I've been eating a lot of the heavier vegan foods out there lately (soy cheese, ice "cream", cookies, chips, etc.) and so for this past week I've been eating all raw. I was raw for 2.5 years, so it's easy to fall back into, and it feels great. To take my detoxing to the next level, I been doing a juice cleanse for the past 3 days. Not wanting to spend the time or energy making my own juice, and wanting to be sure I was getting the nutrition I needed, I opted to try the Blue Print Cleanse - their "excavation" cleanse to be exact. Meet my "meals":

Every day of the cleanse, you drink these tasty (really!) concoctions in the order they're numbered. On the excavation level, the first three are green juices, the fourth is a lemonade, the fifth is another green juice, and the 6th is a heavenly "dessert" of cashew milk with vanilla and cinnamon. Everything is raw, most ingredients are organic, and best of all, it'll make you feel pretty darn good. Honestly, I was worried about having enough energy, but I did everything I normally do (including long walks and a kickboxing class) and was fine. I'm even using this last day of the cleanse to take it even further with a 90 minute massage, infrared sauna, and herbal body wrap (yes, I'm totally spoiled). I'll be toxin-free in no time. For a little while anyway....

My pristine system can't last forever, and if there was ever a reason to go back to cooked food, it's the SF Vegan Bake Sale, which is coming soon (next Saturday!) to Ike's Place. As usual, there will be the most amazing treats you've ever tasted, with every cent of your purchase going to charity. PLEASE get off your booty and come by. I'll be there slinging my white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies if you need even more incentive.

I'd like to think I'll make it until the bake sale still eating raw, but let's face it - Wednesday is Cinco de Mayo and I can't let that pass without some chips, guacamole, and margaritas. After all, we all know that whoever said "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels" is an idiot and has obviously never had guacamole. :)

Have fun this week everyone. See you on the 8th I hope!

I just did the 'make-your-own-juice' version of the BluePrintCleanse this weekend using zoe and erica's 3-day cleanse book. The juice recipes in the book are yummy but one of these days I'd like to try the REAL BPC.

Nice. It's a really great cleanse and I highly recommend it. There's nothing like a do it yourself though! When they invent a juicer that doesn't take the rest of the day to clean, I'm there! :)

I decided to try one day of the Renovation Cleanse from BluePrint. I wanted to see if I liked it, and if I did, I would invest in a juicer and make my own (for the cost of three days worth of the cleanse). But I have to say, this is torture. I'm on to my third juice of the day, which is a second helping of the green juice. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it down. The first helping of green juice took me two hours to get down, and I started gagging at the end. It tastes sort of like pickle juice to me. I'm so glad I didn't spend the money for a three day supply.

Really??? Have you not had lots of green juices before? I think they are an acquired taste for sure, but I absolutely LOVE them. There is a new juice place in my 'hood (I'll be writing them up soon) and I have been drinking my kale and lemon juice on the regular.

Sorry you're having a hard time!

No this is my first time "juicing." I think my mouth knows that what I'm tasting should be chewed (and I have a super sensitive gag reflex...you'll never catch me on Fear Factor eating brains and testicles). I couldn't even finish the second helping of the green juice. I ended up buying a personal pan pizza for lunch. I'll try the other three juices (lemon, carrot, apple, beet and cashew) but I guess juicing is not for me. I was really excited about it too. :-(

Those other juices are DELICIOUS and I'm sure you'll love them. Green juice can just be a bit hard to take for newbies. Good luck with the rest!

The Pineapple, apple, mint was tolerable. The mint was a bit overpowering. The lemon was also tolerable...like lemonade with a kick. The carrot, apple, beet tasted similar to the green jucie, so I could only tolerate a couple of sips. Might be because they both have lemon and ginger...maybe that's what makes it taste pickle-y. I really LOVED the cashew drink! I'm going to try and make that myself. I'm going to try the Green Goodness smoothie from Bolthouse Farms and see how I like theirs.

At least you know now. Everyone has their own path to health and you gotta find what works for you.
